The short answer: Nike's SNKRS app lists three Air Max 97 pairs for October 30 at $190 each, celebrating marching bands at Coppin State University, North Carolina A&T and Mississippi Valley State University.
The three pairs
- Coppin State University, "Global Blue and Midwest Gold", style code IW6991‑400. Nike says the school's pep band welcomes students regardless of prior experience.
- North Carolina A&T, "Sail and Sport Royal", style code IW6992‑100. Nike highlights the Blue and Gold Marching Machine and its "Cold Steel" drumline.
- Mississippi Valley State University, "Court Green and Black", style code IW6993‑300. Nike says the Mean Green Marching Machine was the first HBCU band to perform in a renowned New Year's Day parade.
The design
All three SNKRS pages use the same description: Nike says it is celebrating the legacy of HBCUs and their impact on the marching band world, taking cues from band uniforms with school colors and school branding at the heel and tongue. Nike says a matching whistle finishes the design as a nod to drum majors.
